 Welcome to the
2003 Minnesota Wing Summer Encampment, and the 5th Cadet Training Group.
This year includes several exciting changes to the encampment program, as
we transition to a new home at Volk Field Air National Guard Base in
Wisconsin. As the Encampment Commander, I hope to make this a time where
seniors and cadets will put their leadership skills to use in a living
leadership laboratory, and have an opportunity to make new and lasting
friendships.
The week will have its share of excitement, difficulties, and
challenges; all of which are meant to get us out of our comfort zones.
Some challenges are intentional, some not, but our positive attitude and
willingness to get the job done will ensure a successful encampment
experience.
Our time at encampment will be full of exciting and meaningful
training. The basic cadets will get their foundation in CAP life, and
learn the importance of working as a team. The staff development squadron
will get a chance to refine the skills needed to become a successful staff
member. The cadet staff will get the chance to apply the leadership skills
that they have learned as part of the Integrated Leadership Program (ILP).
The senior staff has the chance to be a positive role model to all of the
cadets, and get involved in some advanced training for their CAP careers
as well!
When you get back to your home units, do not forget the lessons learned
at encampment. Instead, use your newly honed skills to inspire the cadets
who did not attend. Spread your knowledge so that they will be better
prepared to face the challenges of life, and CAP! I look forward to a
great week!
