Protocol is designed to be a combination of established military traditions, proper etiquette, precedence and common sense. It is used to guide us and let us know what to expect in a given situation. Knowing these guidelines will help each person feel more comfortable in any given situations whether in a civilian or military context.

Where does the word Etiquette come from???

The word etiquette reaches to the days of the French Court. In those days people could and most likely would have been banished from the court if they didn’t perform properly or if they behaved in badly. To help educate the court, they were given small pieces of paper. These pieces of paper were called “etiquettes”, or tickets.

The “tickets”, had the proper ways to behave written on them. As everyone left, they would wave the tickets, and say, “Don’t forget to study your etiquette.” So now we take that word “Etiquette” stand for proper behavior and courtesies.
