Annual Awards NominationsNominations are being accepted for awards from now through January 15 following the nomination year. These awards recognize outstanding individuals and units in our wing. The opportunity to gain recognition for an individual or squadron effort is just a click away.

Award DescriptionsSpecialist AwardsThe Specialist Awards are for senior members or units who did an exceptional job in performing in their specialty at the unit level. Current Specialty Tracks open to Senior Members within the Civil Air Patrol are:

Awards are reviewed by the relevant Wing Director/Staff Officer. The Director selects one nomination (or can make their own nomination) and forwards to the Wing Commander (thru the Awards Chair) for his approval. NOTE: Cadets who have performed in an exemplary manner in support of a specialty should be recognized at the group/unit level by their Group Commander.
Cadet AwardsCADET OF THE YEARSelection is based upon outstanding achievements contributed to the success of CAP's Missions over the years. The selection is based on the cadet's lifetime contributions, not just his or her accomplishments during the year nominated. The winner is nominated for the NCR Cadet of the Year Award. Description of Criteria for the National Cadet of the Year Award from CAPR 39-3: An annual award established to recognize the most outstanding cadet in CAP. To be eligible for this award, the cadet must meet the following minimum criteria:(1) Received the Amelia Earhart Award (or higher), (2) Demonstrated outstanding leadership in CAP, (3) Attained academic excellence in school, and (4) Be at least a junior in high school. The outstanding Cadet of the Year is nominated from selected cadets within each wing by a wing selection board. Unit commanders of a cadet or composite unit are limited to one nomination from their unit for the wing selection. NOTE: This documentation must be complete at the time the Awards Board meets. Incomplete nominations will not be considered. All of the forms must be complete, signed and supporting documents attached. Cadet of the Year must be nominated on CAPF 60-84 (signed by the Unit Commander) and sent to dp@mncap.org in PDF file format and include the following documentation:
AIR FORCE SERGEANTS ASSOCIATION CADET NCO OF THE YEAR is to recognize a cadet NCO who exhibits outstanding qualities in the areas of followership, leadership, self discipline and aerospace education. Unit commanders of a cadet or composite unit are limited to one nomination from their unit for the wing selection. Submit nominations for the Wing-level Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) Outstanding Cadet NCO of the Year Award to dp@mncap.org no later than January 15th. Details regarding nomination packages are found in CAPR 39-3. To be eligible for this award, cadets must meet the following minimum criteria:

Minnesota Wing Specific AwardsWILBUR COFFIN MEMORIAL AWARD is for an individual NOT assigned to the Cadet Programs, who promotes, assists, participates in the Cadet Program and provides solution to cadet problems. ROBERT DUNBAR MEMORIAL AWARD is for an individual who has expanded the capability of the Minnesota Wing Communication field through their efforts and technical expertise. DOROTHY SINDELAR MEMORIAL AWARD honors an individual working outside their assigned specialty by consistently volunteering to assist other members with their administrative requirements. FAMILY OF THE YEAR is based upon CAP member or non-member family member's unselfish contribution of time, effort and skills in support of Civil Air Patrol activities in Minnesota. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY SUPPORT OF THE YEAR AWARD is for an individual who has greatly distinguished himself or herself through contributions to human relations and equal opportunity within the Civil Air Patrol.
Senior AwardsWING STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR is for an individual, who within their specialty consistently provides accurate and timely technical support to units during the year nominated. Winner of this award receives a Commander's Commendation Award. To qualify for this award, a CAP Member must be filling an authorized duty position on the Wing Staff. Nominations should include how this member has impacted on a wing wide basis in his area or responsibility. List programs initiated, accomplishments, inspection results, and if possible, get testimonials from unit commanders and their unit counterparts on the member's performance and effectiveness as a wing staff officer. UNIT COMMANDER OF THE YEAR is awarded to a single squadron or group commander who has performed well above the rest. To qualify for this award, the member must have been a unit or group commander at some point during the preceding year. Nominations should include details about how the commander has impacted their unit/group and what they have done that is above and beyond the normal requirements for unit/group commanders. SENIOR MEMBER OF THE YEAR is based on the member's life-time contributions to CAP, their enthusiasm, shared expertise, leadership and compliance with CAP rules, regulations and objectives. The winner is nominated to Region for NCR Senior Member of the Year. Criteria from CAPR 39-3 for National Senior Member of the Year Award: An annual award established to recognize the senior member in all of CAP who has contributed most to the success of CAP's mission. The selection is based on the member's life-time contributions to CAP, not just the member's accomplishments during the year of nomination. Be sure the nomination includes the following information: length of membership, command service, emergency services participation, cadet program participation, aerospace education program participation, personal senior training accomplishments, specialty track accomplishments, individual awards and decorations (including cadet achievements/awards), impact on region/wing programs, impact on national programs, impact on local legislative issues, and impact on national legislative issues.
Cadet or Senior RecognitionINCIDENT STAFF MEMBER OF THE YEAR is to recognize a cadet or senior member who has contributed significantly to the success of CAP's emergency services and operational mission on the incident staff level. The selection is normally based on the member's lifetime contributions to CAP, not just the member's accomplishments during the year of nomination; however, nominations should focus on recent participation and current contributions. Be sure the nomination includes the following information: emergency services and operations qualifications and participation, impact on region/wing emergency services and operations programs and missions and impact on national emergency services and operations programs and missions. Emphasis must be placed on incident staff contributions but do not need to focus on incident commanders and other mission management. AIRCREW MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD is to recognize a cadet or senior member who has significantly contributed to the success of CAP's emergency services and operational mission by participation as members of an aircrew. The selection is normally based on the member's lifetime contributions to CAP, not just the member's accomplishments during the year of nomination; however, nominations should focus on recent participation and current contributions. Extraordinary accomplishments during a shorter period may also be considered. Nominations shall include the following information: emergency services and operations qualifications and participation and impact on region/wing emergency services and operations programs and missions. Emphasis must be placed on aircrew contributions. The nomination should include documentation of qualifications, awards, decorations or other experience not reflected in eServices. GROUND TEAM OF THE YEAR AWARD is to recognize active ground teams, urban direction finding teams or other ground operations resources that may be developed in the future from throughout the wing who have contributed significantly to the success of CAP's emergency services and operational mission. The selection is based on the team's overall contributions, not just the accomplishments during the year of nomination, but nominations should focus on recent participation and current benefits. Be sure the nomination includes the following information: emergency services qualifications and participation of all team member and impacts on wing or wider emergency services and operations programs and missions. Emphasis must be placed on the team's contributions to ground operations but does not need to focus on specific members. Though the award criteria generally focuses on a team earning this award, individuals can also be nominated for recognition with this award as well. COLONEL DAVID SMALL, JR., SUAS CREWMEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARD is an annual award established to recognize active sUAS members from within NCR who have contributed significantly to the success of CAP's emergency services and operational mission. The selection is based on the member's overall sUAS contributions to CAP, not just the accomplishments during the year of nomination, but nominations should focus on recent participation and current benefits. Extraordinary accomplishments during a shorter period may also be considered. Nominations describing the member's accomplishments and contributions will be submitted through channels in narrative form according to the timetable established below. Be sure the nomination includes the following information: emergency services qualifications and participation of the member, impact on region/wing sUAS programs and missions. This award is meant to recognize and reward members conducting sUAS operations at all levels for their contributions to mission success. Please submit either a Senior Member or a Cadet for this Award.
Aerospace Education Teacher of the YearAEROSPACE EDUCATION TEACHER OF THE YEAR is an annual award established to recognize outstanding performance in the classroom. Nominees must be Civil Air Patrol members and certified classroom teachers from grades kindergarten through twelfth from any public, private or parochial school. Nominees must either teach aerospace education as a subject or use aerospace education to enrich the teaching of traditional subjects. Although the CAP Teacher Award is an annual award presented to a teacher, the accomplishments of the nominee need not be limited to the year for which the award is given.
